These Supermodel kits are based upon three different models that Roger Wilkinson has designed and built over the past twelve years. These models were originally created to simply lark about on the local canal, and reservoirs. Now Roger is making them available to buy in kit, part built or fully completed versions!

Roger is also available with these three fantastic models for displays, weddings, Bar Mitzvah's etc! Prices for everything below.

King George V

The first model built was the Battleship 'King George V', built in 1995. In order to fit two people sitting comfortably inside, it was decided that the dimensions would have to be 24'  x 3'. This could then be broken down into 8' sections and bolted together, the 8' sections being the size of a standard sheet of plywood. It also meant that all the main superstructure and accomodation for the two crew, could fit in the centre section, with the fore and aft sections merely for deck and guns. The other important detail was to make sure the superstructure, which is fairly fragile, was kept secure during transportation. This was achieved by having an upper and lower section, which could be hinged, and also seperated. The upper section could be lifted off, inverted and then dropped down inside the lower section. All the small guns, masts and removable superstructure are stowed on racks inside the lower section. The big guns mounted on the fore and aft decks can also be stowed inside these sections, then all three sections can be racked up on a small trailer.
The propulsion for this model is a small electric 2hp motor which is situated in a well just under the aft turret. The controls are situated beside the pilot, giving 4 forward speeds and 2 reverse. The steering control, in the form of a small steering wheel, is mounted on the other side of the pilot, and connected to the motor, which can then rotate giving superb manoevering capabilities.

Power is provided by a 12v deep cycle(leisure) battery, which will give approximately 4hrs of continuous running on full speed (about three knots.) Stability is paramount as the crew are enclosed, but this model is incredibly stable, and will even support a 15st man standing on the edge of the deck. In the unlikely event of a capsize, the upper superstructure can be simply pushed off.  Once seated inside the roomy cockpit, the lid can be lowered , and the pilot's head fits easily into the upper superstructure allowing good all round visibility. The all up weight of this model is approx 70kgs.

Type 12 Frigate HMS Plymouth

This is the most recent model, based on the frigate that took the surrender in the Falklands war. It is of the same dimensions as the battleship ie; 24ft x 3ft, and built in three sections. However this model has much more space inside, as it uses the full width and height to accomodate the two crew. Seating is comfortable and visibility is good all-round. The older Type-12 has seperate lifting lids, but in a similar more modern design like the Leander class frigate, this can have a single hinged lid. This makes things easier in the build, and more practical to use. This is a very pretty hull as it has different deck levels, and even a helicopter and hanger on the aft deck. If you're really clever you could fly a radio controlled helicopter from the deck.
The propulsion and steering mechanism is the same as the battleship, and handling much the same. The all up weight is approx 70kgs

Hunter Killer Submarine

This model was made as a contrast to the Battleship. It is a one-piece model, but could be made as a two-piece, for easier carrying. It is 16ft in length, and 3ft wide, and weighs about 50kgs. It is the simplest model of the three to build, and only took me nine days to build. It is also the most sinister, especially viewed in twilight when people are having their G & T's!
This is a lie down model, which is incredibly comfortable, but can seem a bit claustrophobic to some. It is ideally carried on the roof rack as a one-piece,  or on a trailer as a two-piece.  Assembly is simple; slot on the conning tower, the pole and the fin, insert the engine and battery, and it's ready to go. Again this model is flat-bottomed, and can float in about 5" of water, but again is very stable with good visibility , and very manoeverable.
The opening lid is about 8ft long and 2ft wide, and includes the conning tower, so getting in and out is a bit like climbing into a coffin. When you close the lid you put your head up inside the conning tower , and back against the head rest. You are then looking forward, down the deck, with 180' visibility through a gauze screen, so you can see out, but no-one can see in. Both steering and throttle controls are to hand on either side.

These models are all built of plywood of varying thicknesses , keeping the boat light but strong in the areas where it is needed. They are flat-bottomed,which gives good stability, speed and manoeverability. They have been designed in such a way as to make home-build very easy, with just a basic tool kit, and basic DIY skills, and can all be built in a single garage. Each kit comes with pre-cut plywood sections, all neccesary bulheads and stringers, screws, glues and paint. Also included is a building manual with step by step instructions with all parts numbered. The kit also includes the engine and battery, and all you need to get afloat. Each kit is designed to a certain level of detail, leaving it to the builder to add more if they wish
